After the F5 tornado on May 22nd, 2011 destroyed 1/3 of the city, some of the schools
in Joplin were also destroyed and temporary facilities were needed.
A 50,000 S.F. industrial shell space was converted into a functioning school from
design to completion in 54 days. The shell building lacked concrete slab, utilities,
and all finishes when the project started.
The design team quickly analyzed the potential strengths of the space and efficiently
designed the school to maximize the building.
The students were able to start school on time with no delays.
